Are We Doing it Right? Money, Management, and Nonprofit Survival
Date: Tuesday, May 8, 2012
Email: nonprofitcenter@lakelandcc.edu
Time: 8:30am-10:30am Location: Building A, Room A2100
Description:
Serving a nonprofit organization in a leadership role – whether as a board member or as an executive – requires providing sound financial oversight.
This session will tackle such key questions as:
What are the key financial activities that must be accomplished in any organization?
Who is doing this work on behalf of our organization -- and are these the right people?
What do sound financial practices look like--and are we following such practices?
Do we have the right internal controls?
Are we in compliance with requirements?
What is our comfort level with how things are going "on our watch"?
Establishing the right committees to address the areas of financial management, investment, and audit is an important and necessary step.
This seminar will discuss how to establish the appropriate committees and will explain how different options and approaches make sense for organizations of different sizes.
Partnering to present this very special session on the fiduciary and financial responsibilities of nonprofit boards and senior management will be J.T. Mullen, retired Chief Financial Officer of the Cleveland Foundation, and John ("Jack") Sherwin, Jr., former Chair of the Cleveland Foundation Board of Directors. These experienced leaders will share best practices and offer solid recommendations for both board members and staff.
Breakfast, sign-in and coffee begin at 8:00 am. $45 fee includes continental breakfast.
