As part of its continuing effort to create better, more efficient, and customer-friendly business practices within its membership institutions, the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) created a Best Practices Award Program.

CACUBO presented its 2010 CACUBO Best Practices Award to Mike Mayher, senior vice president for administrative services and treasurer at Lakeland. Mayher’s winning submission, “Going Green Doesn’t Have to be Sexy,” showcased the college’s leadership in energy conservation and sustainability.

Through its efforts, Lakeland addressed the financial challenges of energy dependence that is guaranteed to reduce the college’s energy use and greenhouse gas footprint by 40 percent in one year. Lakeland received a $1,000 honorarium and Mayher presented his winning proposal at CACUBO’s Annual Meeting in Indianapolis on October 5.

Program submissions were reviewed by 38 program reviewers. Judging was based on the effectiveness of the best practice, its measurable benefits, its applicability to other higher education institutions, and future institutional benefits.
