Lakeland celebrates Women’s History Month with an art exhibit “From Woman VII: Created by women, of women, and about women,” which runs through March 29 in The Gallery at Lakeland, 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, Ohio, 44094, building D, first floor.

Declared by Congress in 1987, National Women’s History Month brings awareness to women’s contributions in society.

An awards ceremony, “The Women of Achievement,” co-sponsored by Lakeland’s Women’s Center, will be held Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m. The women honored this year include: Jessie Baginski, Leadership Lake County; Christine Blue, Mentor Schools; Sue Corbett, Breath, Mind & Body; Deborah Druhot, Hillcrest Hospital; Ellen Forbus, First Merit Bank; Julie Kalina Hammond, Beacon Health; Janelle Lanning Unger, Mentor; Beatrice Hammett-Parker, Lakeland Community College; Linda Reed, Painesville Area Chamber of Commerce; and Robin Znidarsic, M.D., Lake Health.

The ceremony will be followed by an artist reception at 3:30 p.m.

The gallery exhibit, awards ceremony and reception are free and open to the public.

Thirty-eight local, regional and out-state women artists will exhibit works in a variety of media including: oil, acrylic, watercolor and encaustic painting, drawing and pastels, photography, textiles, jewelry, digital art, bronze, enamel and ceramic sculpture, assemblage art, and mixed media.

2014 marks the seventh year that Gallery Coordinator and Curator Mary Urbas presents this unique, women-focused exhibition.
