Lakeland's Nonprofit and Public Service Center will host "Managing the Media," on Friday, May 4 on the main campus, 7700 Clocktower Drive, 44094, in the building D Performing Arts Center. This program is presented in collaboration with the Lakeland Police Department.

The program will be presented by crisis communications expert Bruce Hennes of Hennes Paynter Communications and social media specialist Scott Juba. The seminar is divided into two sessions, the first focusing on crisis communications basics and the second on the use of social media in intense public-safety emergencies such as mass casualty, pandemic flu, terrorism, and extreme situations involving threats to life.

Session one will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and session two will take place from 1:15 - 3:15 p.m.

The seminar will give government officials, community leaders, nonprofits, education, business, boards of health, medical providers, fire, law enforcement, and other first responders the tools to navigate the harsh realities of speaking to the public, media, partners, and stakeholders during intense emergencies.

“In a split second you could find yourself in a position where you need to know how to handle the media or be a public spokesperson,” said Carol Willen, director of Lakeland’s Nonprofit and Public Service Center. “These two sessions will provide vitally important information and practical communications guidelines that can be applied in a wide array of settings.”

Registration is $25 including lunch. Seating is strictly limited and pre-registration is required. Use registration code 12SNPC128.01 and register at For additional information; call 440-525-7116 or visit

This program is organized and sponsored by Lakeland’s Nonprofit and Public Service Center. Support for this program has been generously provided by First Energy and Interactive Search Group, LLC.
