In advance of the upcoming concert season, Lakeland Community College is holding auditions for its civic music groups for the 2009-2010 year. Lakeland provides talented community members and students with many opportunities for expressing their artistic abilities in the performing arts through its Civic Performance Program, which includes its Civic Orchestra, Civic Band, Civic Chorus and Civic Jazz Orchestra. Audition schedules are: Lakeland Civic Orchestra, Monday, August 24 from 6:45-7:30 p.m. in room C1078; Lakeland Civic Band, Tuesday, August 25 from 7 – 9 p.m. in room C1078; Lakeland Civic Chorus, Tuesday August 25, 7 – 9 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center; and the Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra, Wednesday, August 26 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in room C1078. To schedule an audition or for more information, call 440-525-7261. All Lakeland civic music group auditions require a prepared solo or selection (accompanist not required). Sightreading is required for the civic orchestra, civic band, and civic jazz orchestra only. About the Civic Orchestra The Civic Orchestra rehearses on Monday evenings and performs three to four concerts per year. The orchestra is led by Eric R. Gratz. About the Civic Band The Civic Band rehearses on Thursday evenings and performs three to four concerts per year. The Civic Band is led by Chuck Frank. About the Civic Chorus Seats are available in all sections with particular needs in the tenor and bass sections. Beginning September 1, rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The Civic Chorus performs three to four concerts on campus per year. The Civic Chorus is led by Christopher Robinson. About the Civic Jazz Orchestra The Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra is currently accepting auditions for trumpets, tenor, alto, and baritone saxophones, trombones, piano, guitar, bass, drum set, and auxiliary percussion. Led by Dave Sterner, The Civic Jazz Orchestra rehearses on Wednesday evenings and performs two to four concerts per year.
