New this fall, Lakeland Community College is offering the first in a sequence of courses designed for the serious study of dance. Dance students will be led by widely-known dancer and instructor Shanna Sheline, who is a founding member of the Cleveland-based dance company “Antaeus Dance.”
Under Sheline’s expert instruction, students will take Modern Dance I-A, a comprehensive introduction to modern dance technical skills and principles, then continue with Modern Dance I-B to further advance performance skills. These courses prepare students for entry into professional dance programs found at four-year colleges.
Beginning in the fall of 2010, courses in Modern Dance (second year sequence) and Ballet (first year sequence) will be offered.
Sheline is a graduate of the Master of Arts program in contemporary dance at Case Western Reserve University. Prior to that, she attended Purdue University where she received her bachelor’s degree in communications. In addition, she co-instructs the Allegheny Summer Dance Intensive and teaches master classes for the Antaeus Dance Company. She is certified as both a Kripalu Yoga teacher and Pilates instructor, and instructs a variety of programs throughout the Cleveland area.
Sheline was recently featured in an article in The Plain Dealer this past January, previewing her performance with Antaeus Dance for DanceWorks 09 at Cleveland Public Theatre.
