Continuing Education Date Posted: Monday, May 04, 2009 Topic: Innovative seminar helps police officers of all ranks with solutions to current policing issues
In response to police officers being constantly confronted with some of society’s most difficult and demanding problems, the Continuing Education division at Lakeland Community College is hosting a seminar “Power Policing,” on Monday, May 18 from 8:30a.m. – 4:40 p.m. on the college’s main campus. The fee is $89.
Continued exposure to a demanding atmosphere can cause officers to grapple with negative emotions. The seminar will help them find and look at positive aspects. The course is designed to allow officers to review motivational skill sets that will aid them in the profession, but their respective departments themselves. A realistic evaluation of today’s policing will be examined and practical solutions will be offered real life challenges will be studied and examples provided.

Course instructor Detective Chuck Dahlinger has been employed in law enforcement for the past 23 years, working for the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety since 1990 and prior to that Western Michigan University Campus Police. Dahlinger was coordinator of in-service training with the Kalamazoo Law Enforcement Training Center; served as a resource person and instructor for the Kalamazoo Regional Police Academy; and has written a textbook and several training manuals, as well as over two dozen articles for law enforcement magazines, including the monthly column “Behind the Wheel” for Police Magazine. Dahlinger received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ferris State University in Criminal Justice.
