The Lakeland Community College Nonprofit and Public Service Center presents educational and professional development workshops and seminars throughout the year for individuals and organizations. The center also offers an array of customized consulting services and provides opportunities for networking, dialogue, and collaboration for those in the nonprofit and government sectors.

Stimulus Package: Accessing Economic Recovery Funding

Description: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 aims to stimulate the economy by encouraging consumption on the part of individuals, businesses, and government. Participants will learn about: Where stimulus funds will be invested; what key appropriations are of special interest to nonprofits; implementation timeline; and the application process.

Nonprofit Board Roles and Responsibilities

Whether you are an experienced board member, a newcomer to board service, or simply an interested volunteer aspiring to join a board of trustees, this interactive session will expand your knowledge and enhance your leadership abilities. Guided by Organization Development expert Sarah Spengler, MSOD, this dynamic workshop will build upon what participants already know and will help you to become even more effective in performing your Board roles and meeting your responsibilities. Nonprofit Executive Directors and other staff members are encouraged to attend as well.
Ohio Ethics Law: Can I Do That?

Description: The Ohio Ethics Law session provides timely information regarding the Ohio Ethics Commission and regarding restrictions in the Ohio Ethics Law and related statutes that pertain to all public servants -- including public employees as well as elected and appointed public officials. The presenter will be Susan Willeke, of the Ohio Ethics Commission. Private sectors parties who are regulated or who do business with public offices are encouraged to attend as well. Participants will learn:
• How to identify and avoid acting on potential conflicts of interest; The definition of public contracts and ethics prohibitions related to public contracts
• How to identify potential post-employment requirements What general assistance is available from the Ohio Ethics Commission to understand and comply with the Ethics

This session illuminates the importance of attracting Gen Xers and offers practical suggestions for recruiting, engaging, and cultivating future leaders who can help to advance your organizational mission. Presenter, Sara O'Neill Sullivan is immediate past chair, Center for Families and Children and co-founder and managing director of Second Story Productions, LLC. Sullivan will be joined by a dynamic panel representing diverse perspectives on how to capture the talents and energy of the next generation.
