The Women’s Center at Lakeland Community College announces the recipients of the 17th Annual Woman of Achievement awards. The award is given each year to women who exemplify the Women’s Center’s slogan, “Women Helping Women Succeed.” Each of the women receiving this award consistently act on their personal commitment to help other women meet their goals. These award recipients will be honored in a ceremony on Sunday, March 22 at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center on the college campus.
Special presentation and photography exhibit “The Portable Universe” by guest speaker Honey Lazar will document the timeline of women’s lives and thing they cart with them from cradle to grave.
The 2009 Women of Achievement recipients are:
• Mary Barnes, Forbes House executive director
• Mary Jones, Emko Printing & Design
• Emily Koenig, Emko Printing & Design
• Judee Nerren, editor of the Lake County Women’s Journal
In celebration of Women’s History Month, this ceremony will coincide with an artists opening reception of the art exhibit "From Woman II: Created by women, of women and about women" which runs through April 3 in Lakeland’s Fine Arts Gallery which is directly in the hallway to the Performing Arts Center.

Beginning in 1993, the Women's Center annually pays tribute to women in Lake County through the Woman of Achievement Award. Presented in March of each year in conjunction with Women's History Month, the award recognizes women whose lives personify a spirit of generosity, dedication and caring within the context of a specific theme.
