The Lakeland Alumni Association is seeking nominations for the 2009 Hall of Fame Awards. “Last year’s cohort was a ‘class act’,” said Florine O’Ryan, chair of Lakeland’s Alumni Association Committee. “We look forward to group of nominees that measure up to last year’s group.”
The Alumni Association committee uses the following criteria to select Hall of Fame inductees:
- They must have graduated, not just taken courses without receiving a degree, from Lakeland Community College
- They must have had an impact on the local community and possibly beyond through their career or through community involvement
- They represent the “best” of Lakeland and the community
- They should inspire current students to excel
“We are looking for individuals who have made a difference in our society because of their experience at Lakeland,” said Bob Cahen, executive director of The Lakeland Foundation.
This year’s induction ceremony will take place in August on Lakeland’s campus at Mooreland Mansion. “All of our inductees have spoke so highly of their beginnings at Lakeland,” added Cahen. “Often one or two key faculty members or counselors had such an impact, that it changed their lives and as a result, it affected the life of this community.”
Deadline for nominations is May 1, 2009. They may be submitted in writing and focus on why the nominee should be selected for induction this year. Nomination letters should be sent to Tammy Konte, alumni secretary, 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland 44094, or submitted online at www.lakelandcc.edu/alumni.
