Programs for public service leaders and non-profit organizations
The Lakeland Community College Nonprofit and Public Service Center presents educational and professional development workshops and seminars throughout the year for individuals and organizations. The center also offers an array of customized consulting services and provides opportunities for networking, dialogue, and collaboration for those in the nonprofit and government sectors.

Description: This session is designed to help leaders of not-for-profits – especially officers and board members – protect the resources that they and their organizations have worked so hard to secure.
Presenters Randall J. Meyer, chief investigation of the legal division, and Kevin M. Saionzkowski, chief auditor of special audits, are from the Office of the Auditor of State, Mary Taylor, CPA. This program is co-sponsored by State Representative Carol-Ann Schindel.

Description: Sign-In and Continental Breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. (NOTE: This program is back by popular demand. Due to the amount of information to discuss, the session has been extended in length.)
The new IRS Form 990 tax return requires nonprofit organizations to reveal much more about their governance and operating policies and procedures than has ever been made public before.
This is an excellent time for board members, executive directors, and financial and development professionals to address these issues and make sure that their organizations are following best practices.
The presenter, Dr. Barbara Clemenson, holds an executive doctor of management degree, is a certified fundraising executive, and a certified pubic accountant.
Using Social Media to Advance Your Nonprofit Organization

Description: With millions of users now engaged in online networking, nonprofit organizations have the opportunity for greater outreach than ever before. This seminar will explore the vast opportunities available to nonprofits through the use of such social media as Linked In, Facebook, My Space, Second Life, and Twitter. Participants will learn more about how to enter the blogosphere and how social networks can help raise awareness of their cause and advance their organization's mission.
Presenters are Claudia Timmerman, director of major gifts for the Ohio division, north region, of the American Cancer Society, and Karen Malone Wright, president, Odyssey Creative Communications Consulting.
