References & Résumé Help
As the economy waxes and wanes, I am being asked to provide job or academic
references and/or help review résumés. Due to a few unpleasant
experiences, I find I need to now create a policy for providing references and
résumé help.
References
- You must have successfully (C or higher) completed at least one
of my courses.
- If you are a classroom (traditional, in class) student, your in class
decorum must be professional and show both creative and critical thinking.
- If you are an online student, your online performance must be such that
you left a good impression on both me and the rest of the class by providing
ample (correct, meaningful, useful, creative) assistance in the discussion
forums.
- What I need from you:
- A written request, including all pertinent information
- A current résumé
- A paragraph or two on your future. If this is a professional reference,
what you want to achieve in this new position. If this is an academic
reference, your proposed major, future plans, and so forth.
- All available contact information for both you and the reference recipient.
- How the information should be transmitted (electronically or paper/regular
mail)
Résumés
I will only review résumés during ISYS 2190 Internet Programming
Case Study as part of the course requirements. Lakeland's Career
Services provides excellent cover letter, résumé, and interviewing
workshops.
