Popular Music: Rock, Jazz, Country, Folk, Soul | | Academic/Industry Experience | Dr. Bob Brown has been a music instructor at Lakeland Community College for 17 years, and the music department chair for 14 years. While at Lakeland, he has written numerous compositions and performed in Lakeland’s civic ensembles. He has also performed at Lakeland’s Jazz Festival with Louie Bellson, Terry Gibbs, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, Bud Shank and Rob McConnell.
Before Lakeland, Dr. Brown received formal training at SUNY Fredonia for B.S., Indiana University for M.M. and Columbia for Ed. D. At Fredonia, he was honored as Alumnus of the Year in 1999.
Dr. Brown has participated in assorted clinics and seminars taught by Mel Torme, Billy Byers, Marty Paitch and the late Ray Conniff in Chautauqua, University of Las Vegas and University of Illinois.
On a further note, Dr. Brown has written “Now!” a choral piece, “Music and People” a text for a distance learning course at Lincoln Memorial University, and had articles published in N.A.J.E Jazz Educator and Rutgers Jazz Journal.
In the future, Dr. Brown plans on publishing two books in 2003: a revised version of his 1995 music appreciation text “Music in the Key of Life”; and “Rag to Rap” a similarly styled text for popular music classes. |
