GOLF OUTING
Quail Hollow Country Club will be the venue for the Fifth Annual Athletic Department Golf Outing, to be held on Saturday, September 25th.
All proceeds benefit LakelandCommunity College’s student athletes.
Activities kick off at 11:30 with registration and an open driving range.Box lunches will be available starting at noon and Tee Time is 1:00.We will be playing the Devlin/Von Hagge Course.Dinner will be served at approximately 6:00 and awards, door prizes and raffle items will be distributed shortly thereafter.
Cost for the four person scramble is $110 per golfer and includes 18 holes, cart, box lunch, hamburger and chicken dinner, soft drinks, water and four tickets for beer/wine.Non-golfers may purchase a dinner ticket for $30.

May 5, 2010 Lakeland Community College held its Athletic Banquet tonight.While several awards were bestowed this evening, the Athletic Department would like to make special note of the following accomplishments. Manuel Conde received the 2009-2010 Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.Conde is a member of Lakeland’s soccer team and a native of Caracas, Venezuela.He is a mechanical engineering major who carries a 4.0 GPA.He has won numerous awards for his soccer play, including his placement on the NJCAA Region XII second team.He has received an athletic scholarship to play at NCAA Division I, Cleveland State University. Aslea Williams received the 2009-2010 Female Student Athlete of the Year Award.Williams led her team in several statistical categories, and grabbed more than 500 rebounds for the Lady Lakers during her career.She has received numerous honors for her play.Recent awards include: OCCAC Player of the Year, she was placed on the NJCAA All-Region XII team and was an NJCAA All-American second team honoree. Nate Barnes received the 2009-2010 Male Student Athlete of the Year Award.Barnes led his team in several statistical categories and for the last two years has led the nation with free throw percentages of 91% last season and 90% this season.He has received several awards for his play and was recently placed on the NJCAA All-Region XII team. May 5, 2010 Lakeland Community College is proud to announce that sophomore point guard Darrell Lampley has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his basketball career at Eastern Michigan University.The Eagles are a Division I program that competes in the Mid-American Conference. "We are thrilled to have Darrell join us, as the newest member to our basketball family” said Eastern Michigan head coach Charles E. Ramsey.“He exemplifies the meaning of a student-athlete, which we are constantly searching for -- a great student, a great athlete and most importantly a character person." These sentiments were echoed by Lakeland’s head basketball coach Terry Bowe who said "Darrell is an exceptional student-athlete.His ability to stay focused academically, and his winning competitive nature…will help him and Eastern Michigan continue to obtain great success.” Lampley played one season at Lakeland, after a freshman campaign at St. Peter’s College.He averaged 17.9 points per game for the Lakers and led the team with 165 assists and 72 steals.Lampley made 44% of his field goals and made 35% of those taken from beyond the arc.He averaged 3.3 rebounds per contest. Lampley should have an opportunity to earn his playing time at EMU, as the Eagles are graduating their starting point guard, Carlos Medlock.He was the team’s most valuable player this season and earned team awards for best free throw percentage (80.5%) and most assists (121).Medlock was a second team All-MAC selection. The Eagles finished second in the MAC’s western division at 8-8, and were 17-15 overall.

Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Basketball Post Season Honors March 2010 Congratulations to Aslea Williams who was named the OCCAC Player of the Year.Williams was the leading scorer in the conference averaging 19.0 points per game in OCCAC games. She averaged 12.5 rebounds per game which placed her fourth in the conference. She had nine assists on the season and averaged 2.2 steals per game. Williams had 17 blocks on the season, for a 1.3 blocks per game average. She shot 48.9 percent from the field and 56.7 percent from the charity stripe. Williams was also named to the All-Region team for Region XII. Zipporah Tidwell was named to the OCCAC second team and SirShawna Dowdy was an honorable mention. Tevin Calhoun and Brendan Cooper were named Co-Newcomers of the Year for the conference.Calhoun averaged 10.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks during the conference season. He shot 41.0 percent from the floor.Cooper averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per conference game.He also added 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the floor for the Lakers during conference games. Nate Barnes was the best free throw shooter in the country for the second year in a row.His 92 percent conversion rate from the charity stripe led the conference.He was third in the OCCAC in scoring at 19.9 points per game, converting 40.8 percent of his shots in conference play.He was named to the OCCAC first team. Cooper and Calhoun were second team honorees, along with Darrell Lampley who was sixth in the conference in scoring at 15.9 points per contest.Lampley led the conference in assists at 6.8 per game and was fourth in steals at 2.7 per game. Lakeland’s men’s coach Terry Bowe has been voted OCCAC Coach of the Year for the 2009-10 season. Bowe led the Lakers to a 9-5 conference record and a 19-11 overall record. The Lakers finished tied for second in the OCCAC this year.This was the third time that Bowe won this honor in his six year tenure as head coach.
February 5, 2010 The Lakeland community offers its congratulations to sophomore soccer players Manuel Conde, Aldo Maiorano and Miroslav Pezer.They each have signed a National Letter of Intent to continue their soccer careers at four year schools.Their soccer scholarships will allow them to continue their educations and obtain bachelor’s degrees.Conde and Maiorano will be attending NCAA, Division I, ClevelandStateUniversity.Conde is an engineering major and Maiorano is studying criminal justice. Pezer will be attending NCAA, Division II, Lake ErieCollege.Pezer has not declared a major.
S.T.A.R. Student Athletes: Fall 2009 Congratulations to the student athletes who achieved a 3.0 grade point average during the fall semester, while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours.
Special accolades must be bestowed on our soccer team who had 10 of their 18 team members achieve this honor.The team was led by Manuel Conde and Steven Collins, who each achieved a perfect 4.0 for the semester.

The soccer season ended many months ago, but the accolades for sophomore halfback Manuel Conde kept coming right through Lakeland’s commencement ceremony. Conde graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Associate of Science degree and a perfect 4.0 grade point average.He was a finalist for the Dean’s Award and was a commencement speaker. A few days before graduation, he was honored as the 2010 Outstanding Mathematics Student.Earlier he had been inducted into Lakeland Mathematics Honor Society, Mu Aplhpa Delta.He is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Conde was one of two Lakeland students honored at the Ohio State House as a member of the All Ohio Academic Team, and received a $500 scholarship with that honor. At Lakeland’s annual athletic banquet, Conde was lauded as the college’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for demonstrating outstanding academic progress, leadership and character and for making significant contributions to his team.He was also his team’s representative for Male Athlete of the Year and was named his team’s Best Halfback. All of these honors come after a rather significant list of post-season honors.He was a named to the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference first team for the second consecutive year; and was the conference’s Midfielder of the Year. He was named second team NJCAA Region XII and the NSCAA’s Division I Junior College All-North Region second team. His on the field accomplishments have earned him an NCAA Division I scholarship to play soccer at Cleveland State University where he will study mechanical engineering.Long range goals include obtaining a Master’s of Business Administration degree, as well as some day studying at MIT. Manuel Conde was not only an accomplished soccer player and student; he was a valued teammate, friend and member of the Lakeland Community. This native of Caracas, Venezuela was never at a loss for company.His friendly smile and accommodating demeanor helped him make friends all over campus whether with his teammates or other athletes, his co-workers at Breakers, classmates or members of the faculty or staff. Lakeland soccer coach Djuro Peric says that while Conde will be missed, he is sure that he will continue to have much success.

April 1, 2010 Today, the NJCAA announced its All-American teams for the 2009-2010 season. Ten players were selected to the first, second and third teams from nominations submitted from throughout the nation.The selections were made at the NJCAA annual meeting by the basketball selection committee for each division. Lakeland Community College is proud to announce that Aslea Williams was named a second team All-American. This sophomore post player was the only Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Division II player to make the All-American list. Williams led the Lakers to a 21-7 regular season record, and a 10-4, third place finish in the OCCAC.She led the team with 17.57 points and 12.08 rebounds per game this season.She finished her Lakeland career with 703 points, 506 rebounds and 56 blocks. This criminal justice major is being heavily recruited by NCAA Division I and Division II programs.
