Email: nonprofitcenter@lakelandcc.edu
Time: 8:30-10:30 am Location: Building A, Room 2100
Description: Nonprofit leaders -- and boards of trustees, in particular -- are responsible for maintaining accountability and ensuring the legal and ethical integrity of their organizations.
This workshop, which will be presented by a CPA and a former Ohio Assistant Attorney General, is expressly designed to help board members and nonprofit managers understand how they and their organizations can avoid liability. An array of legal and accounting topics will be covered, including: common reasons nonprofit organizations get sued (and how to prevent that from happening); laws that govern fundraising activities, including gambling and charity benefits; fiduciary and other duties; risk management; record keeping, reporting, and disclosure requirements; campaign and lobbying rules; and unrelated business income.
Board members and nonprofit managers are encouraged to attend, along with others from the same organization. Once registered, participants are encouraged to submit their questions in advance to:
nonprofitcenter@lakelandcc.edu.
Presenters: David M. Reape, CPA, Senior Manager - Ciuni & Panichi, Inc.;
Charles M. Miller, J.D., CNM - Senior Director of Planned Giving - Case Western Reserve University; Former Ohio Assistant Attorney General, Charitable Section
