SMART Information Sessions for Fall 2012
Date: Monday, August 6, 2012
Email: womencenter@lakelandcc.edu
Time: 3:30 pm
Location: The Women's Center at Lakeland
Description: Spending a semester in the SMART program helps single mothers become successful in college. Students will discover all the ins-and-outs of the college experience and learn how to:

Negotiate all aspects of Lakeland including registration, financial aid, counseling, student activities and other areas that are often confusing to first time students.

Access resources which are available to students that you might not otherwise know about.

Interact professionally with instructors and college personnel.

Attend training workshops on topics related to overcoming barriers which could keep you from succeeding in college.

Weekly workshops are scheduled so students can address any parts of their lives which negatively impact their ability to stay in school. Topics include; effective communication, coping with change, finances, relationships, and many more. Workshops provide a respectful atmosphere
so women can bond and gain support from one another.

SMART is a support, networking and scholarship program which helps single mothers achieve academic success. It is one semester in length.

Participants must be new students (first or second semester in college), have demonstrated financial need, attend school on Tuesdays/Thursdays (at least 6 credits), and be available to attend workshops on Fridays.

Students must enroll in ENGL 0111 or ENGL 1111 to participate.

This is an on-campus, daytime program.
